You may be aware that Croydon, Kingston, Merton and Sutton Councils are currently seeking your views on the ‘South London Waste Plan.'  The boroughs are working together to produce the Plan in response to European, UK legislation and the Mayor's London Plan which require more rubbish to be recycled, composted and treated in facilities close to the source of waste.  Modern waste management facilities are needed to achieve this and help reduce the amount of rubbish sent to land fill.
The South London Waste Plan is a key planning document which will form part of each borough's Local Development Framework (LDF).  It will support the development of modern waste management facilities by:

  • Identifying suitable sites for the possible future development of modern waste management facilities across the four boroughs.
  • Identifying policies to govern and control the development of future waste facilities and help decide future planning applications in all partner boroughs.

This is the second stage of consultation on the Waste Plan.  Following last autumn’s consultation on issues and options, potential future sites for waste management facilities have been identified and policies to guide their development have been drafted.
Further investigation and your comment on sites is now needed before the final selection of sites is made.  Not all sites will be needed in the final list.  Your views will help develop the final version of the South London Waste Plan.  It will then be submitted to the Secretary of State for examination by an independent planning inspector.
Please give your feedback on potential sites and draft policies.
Complete a questionnaire
Two questionnaires have been produced:

  • Stage 2 – Potential Sites and Policy short questionnaire which seeks your opinion on the potential sites and focus of the draft policies
  • Stage 2 – Potential Sites and Policies full questionnaire which seeks your views on the potential sites, a number of sites where deliverability issues have been identified, the full policies and how these will be monitored.

Please find below a direct link to the questionnaires. From this weblink, you can choose whether to view the short or full questionnaire.  You can then complete the questionnaire online by clicking on the “read and comment on document” link.  Alternatively, please download a hard copy from the ‘supporting documents tab.’
Hard copies of the documents are also available in libraries and main council receptions or from the Project Manager (whose details appear at the end of this Email).
If you are already registered with the Limehouse online consultation system, you can use your existing logon and password.  If you have not used this system before, please register by following the step-by-step instructions via the below link. Please note that when submitting comments, these will be publicly available.
